Tilbury rail siding upgrade doubles weekly train capacity

North Logistics has completed a £6.5 million upgrade to the rail siding at its Tilbury terminal. The siding now accepts trains of up to 775 metres and has a second loading road, allowing the terminal to handle up to twelve departures a week, up from six.

Work was carried out in phases over fourteen weeks so that the terminal could keep operating. The upgrade also includes new reach stackers and a resurfaced container yard.

The additional capacity supports the new Rotterdam hub, which sends consolidated freight to Tilbury by short sea for onward movement by road and rail into the Midlands and the North.
