Safety stand-down held at all 34 group sites

On Wednesday 8 October, work stopped for ninety minutes at all 34 North Holdings Group sites. Depots, terminals and offices held a joint safety stand-down, the group’s fourth, led locally by site managers rather than from London.

This year’s session focused on two themes: lifting operations in confined yards, following a near-miss at a customer site in the spring, and the isolation of electrical equipment before maintenance. Each team reviewed the incident summary, walked its own site and recorded one change it would make before the end of the month.

More than 2,100 employees and contractors took part. Teams logged 311 actions, and the group safety committee will review progress against them at its December meeting. Results are reported to the board alongside the quarterly injury statistics.
