Solar array at Immingham depot begins generating

A 1.8 megawatt solar installation at North Industrial’s Immingham depot was connected to the grid in August. The array covers the workshop roof and a new carport and is expected to generate around 1.7 gigawatt hours a year, or roughly a third of the depot’s electricity use.

The carport includes eight charging points for the depot’s light commercial vehicles, supporting the group’s target to electrify 60 per cent of that fleet by 2029. Surplus generation at weekends will be exported to the local network.

Immingham is the first of six depots to be surveyed for rooftop solar. A second installation, at Teesside, is in design.
